- This is the news you've been waiting for. An 'Empanada Fest' is set for September 18 in Slater Park. The contest will cap Pawtucket-Central Falls Restaurant Weeks and the Pawtucket Arts Festival. (Pawtucket Patch)
- A Darlington man gets into his car every day and drives to Boston. Kelly Sajous, who arrived from Haiti at the age of 13, just marked 25 years at the Greater Boston Food Bank. (Pawtucket Patch)
- The Providence City Council will hold an emergency meeting to address a growing problem with violent crime. Council President John Igliozzi told WJAR that a leadership "reset" might be necessary. The city has been plagued with shootings, stabbings, beatings, and marauding dirt bikes.
- North Attleboro town councilors received an update on polyfluoroalkyls (PFAS) found in the public water supply. The town is in line for a state grant to help deal with the problem. Public works officials said there is no immediate health threat, but that pregnant women should avoid drinking the town's tap water for now. (The Sun Chronicle/subscription required)
- The North Providence Little League fell to Vermont, 1-0. at the New England regional competition in Bristol, Connecticut. Nevertheless, Rhode Island’s Mike Ryan turned some heads. He led all pitchers with 11 strikeouts in 4.2 innings and allowed only one hit and no runs. (WPRI)
