
PAWTUCKET, RI — The historic Modern Diner is up for sale.
"This is a bittersweet decision,” Modern Diner owner Nick Demou said in a media release.
“The Modern Diner has been part of our family for generations and we’ve loved every moment of serving our neighbors, watching families grow, and being a source of comfort and nostalgia," Demou said.

Demou grew up in Pawtucket and founded the business with his late father, Arthur Demou, in 1985, the release said.
Housed in a 1940s Sterling Streamliner, the Modern Diner is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

"In addition to its historic significance, the Modern Diner gained national attention when it was named one of Food Network’s Top 5 Diners in America, highlighted for its unforgettable Custard French Toast and welcoming atmosphere," the release said.
The asking price for the historic diner is $979,000.
"Take over this well-established, iconic diner with decades of history, complete with under-market-value real estate, a double lot, and the potential to build or expand in a desirable location," the listing says.
