Pawtucket City Councilwoman Ama Amponsah Passes Away
'Our community has lost a superwoman,' activist Khrystyne Bento announced. Amponsah owned Ama's Variety and represented the 5th District.

PAWTUCKET, RI — Pawtucket City Councilwoman Ama Amponsah has died. Amponsah, the owner of Ama’s Variety and Mini Mart, was beloved in the community, those close to her told GoLocal Providence. Community activist Khrystyne Bento shared the news on Facebook, saying “our community has lost a superwoman."
Amponsah represented the city’s 5th District. The seat was previously held by Meghan Kallman, who was elected to the Rhode Island State Senate in 2020.
