What To Know About RI FC Facing New England Revolution For First Time In U.S. Open Cup
Rhode Island FC won its first Open Cup game, defeating Portland Hearts of Pine and will advance to face a neighbor.
PAWTUCKET, RI — Rhode Island FC will have its first meeting against the New England Revolution when they meet in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 at Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket early next month.
The region's two professional soccer teams will square off at 7:30 a.m. May 7. The Revolution are 9-4-3 against USL Championship teams and also won the U.S. Open Cup in 2007. They also reached the finals in 2001 and 2006.
Rhode Island FC won its first Open Cup game on Tuesday, defeating USL League One expansion side Portland Hearts of Pine in a 2-1 match. Clay Holstad and Frank Nodarse scored the goals for Rhode Island, while goalkeeper Jackson Lee chipped in four saves in his first start of 2025.

The U.S. Open Cup is a tournament where all professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer are eligible to participate. The tournament is the oldest ongoing national soccer tournament in the United States.
