Rhode Island Man Tampered With Odometer: Cops

The Hope resident was arrested Saturday, the Rhode Island State Police said.

A Rhode Island man was arrested after he tampered with an odometer, police said.

Derek Mackenzie, 33, was taken into custody shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday, the Rhode Island State Police said in a media release.

Mackenzie, a resident of Hope, was also charged with obtaining property by false pretenses/personation, according to the release.

"This arrest was the result of a (Scituate) Barracks investigation and Pawtucket Police Department taking the subject into custody," the release said.

Mackenzie was transported to state police headquarters where he was processed, arraigned by a justice of the peace and released., according to the state police.
