3 Hospitalized After 2 Crashes In Portsmouth Within 1 Hour

During the second crash, a driver pulled up to emergency officials and said their passenger needed medial attention, fire officials said.

PORTSMOUTH, RI — Portsmouth firefighters, police and other emergency officials were busy Tuesday morning, having to respond to two crashes within an hour, where three people were sent to the hospital.

Fire officials said the first two-car crash happened around 8:45 a.m. at the intersection of East Main Road and Immokolee Drive

Both drivers were taken to local emergency rooms with minor injuries, fire officials said. Traffic in both directions was limited for a short time, and both vehicles needed to be towed.

Fire officials said the second two-car crash happened around 9:30 a.m. on East Main Road in front of Portsmouth Town Hall. Mutual aid rescues from Middletown and Tiverton, along with Portsmouth Police and fire officials, responded.

At the crash site, a driver stopped their vehicle and told emergency officials they needed medical assistance for a passenger. Middletown emergency officials treated and took the patient to Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence.

Tiverton rescue treated both drivers from the crash on scene. East Main Road was shut down in front of the town hall and diverted down Middle Road and Hedly Road for a short time. Both vehicles were towed.
