Finn Wins Dist. 72 Primary Over Leadership-Backed Newcomer
Linda Finn defeated James Cawley by a more than 2-1 margin.

PORTSMOUTH, RI—Former Rhode Island House 72 Rep. Linda Finn defeated political newcomer James Cawley in Tuesday night's primary election.
Finn, who is trying to reclaim the seat after losing to Republican Dan Reilly in 2014, soundly defeated Cawley by a more than 2-1 margin, according to preliminary results from the state Board of Elections.
Finn, a progressive Democrat and founding member of the Rhode Island Coalition Against Gun Violence, overcame a lack of support from the ruling Democrats at the state house, who backed her opponent instead, much to the chagrin of Portsmouth Democrats, who endorsed her locally.
