PORTSMOUTH, RI — Christmas has come and gone, and though it is custom to have the tree up for the rest of the holiday season, the Portsmouth Department of Public Works released its schedule for picking up trees.

The Christmas tree pickup schedule is based on your voting precinct. If you don’t know your precinct, contact Canvassing at 401-683-3157 or go to the Secretary of State's website and choose "View/Update My Voter Record."

Here's the pickup schedule for disposing Christmas trees in Portsmouth:

  • Jan. 9: Precincts 2702.
  • Jan. 10: Precinct 2703.
  • Jan. 11: Precincts 2704 and 2705.
  • Jan. 13: Precinct 2706.

Remember the following important information for curbside tree pickup:

  • Trees must be placed curbside by 7 a.m. on your collection day.
  • Trees must NOT be in plastic bags and must be stripped of ALL decorations and tinsel.
  • Residents who miss their pick-up date can bring Christmas trees (stripped of all decorations) to the Department of Public Works located off Hedly Street. Trees are NOT accepted at the Transfer Station.
  • After Public Works picks up all trees, trees will be recycled into mulch available free of charge for town residents. If you need information on tree pick-up or free mulch, call the DPW at 401-683-0362.

In the event of inclement weather, this schedule may change. Contact Public Works at 401-683-0362 for your new pick-up date.
