Man Suing for $100,000 After Injury at Portsmouth High School
A man is looking to sue the town of Portsmouth after he was hospitalized follwoing an injury he allegedly sustained at Portsmouth High School.

A Portsmouth man is suing the town for $100,000 after he allegedly suffered an injury at the high school that lead to infection and hospitalization.
In a July 11 letter to the Town Council, Fulvio Pires claimed the town was responsible for injuries he suffered to his leg after leaning up against a table and being cut by a piece of protruding metal, reports The Sakonnet Times.
Speaking through his attorney Adam Combies of Combies Hanson, Fulvio alleged that the puncture wound caused his knee to swell and a Group A streptococcal infection to fester that ultimately required hospitalization. Pires was hospitalized for one week at Newport Hospital and is reportedly still recovering from his injuries.
Fulvio was reportedly picking his daughter up from practice for a dance recital when he leaned up against the table that wounded him. The table was being moved for storage during the summer months.
David Faucher, Portsmouth's finance director, advised the council to refer the claim to the towns insurer, the Rhode Island Interlocal Risk Management Trust.
The matter was continued to the Saturday, July 20 council meeting on Prudence Island at 2 p.m. at the Prudence Island Improvement Association Building, 620 Narragansett Ave.
