Portsmouth Middle School Dismissed Students Due to Power Outage
The middle school sent the children home because there is no heat in the building, the district said.

PORTSMOUTH, RI — The holiday weekend started early for children at Portsmouth Middle School. They were dismissed Friday morning because the heat was not working. The school district said National Grid is working on the problem, which originated off site. But because the recovery time estimates amounted to several hours, the decision was made to send the youngsters home.
According to National Grid's outage map, fewer than five customers in Portsmouth have lost power. The company is also reporting 141 households in Hopkinton are out. Restoration time for Portsmouth is noon. For Hopkinton, the estimate is 2 p.m.
