Portsmouth Police and Fire to Host Open House

Stop by between noon and 2 p.m. on Oct. 23 to tour both stations, see fire trucks and police cars and learn about operations.

PORTSMOUTH, RI—Portsmouth residents have an opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the town's police and fire departments on Oct. 23 during a joint open house.

Both departments will welcome people between noon and 2 p.m. to meet firefighters and police officers, take a tour of both stations, check out fire trucks and police cars and more.

"Check out our three ambulances, and two boats that are housed in the fire station. Firefighters and police officers will be on hand to answer questions
about the day-to-day operations of the departments, including how we respond to
emergency calls," a news release state. "Fire prevention education will be available, and kids will be provided with fire safety coloring books."

Visitors will also be able to tour the town's emergency operations center, or EOC, upstairs in the fire station. The town's Emergency Management Director will be on hand to answer questions about how it operations, like when a hurricane is bearing down on the area.

There will be light refreshments and other children's activities, too. The event is free and open to the public.
