PORTSMOUTH, RI — With 2024 over, it's time to reflect on the year. You've probably already seen some lists for the top books of the year. Patch however is offering its own local twist on the end of the year tradition because honestly, who knows you better than your neighbors?

We reached out to the Portsmouth Free Public Library and found out what people were borrowing to read in 2024. Check out the lists for the top books below:

  1. "The Women" by Kristin Hannah
  2. "Lessons in Chemistry" by Bonnie Garmus
  3. "The Air Raid Book Club" by Annie Lyons
  4. "What You Are Looking for Is in the Library" by Michiko Aoyama
  5. "Happiness Falls" by Angie Kim
  6. "The Brilliant Life of Eudora Honeysett" by Annie Lyons
  7. "The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store" by James McBride
  8. "Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone" by Benjamin Stevenson
  9. "The Measure" by Nikki Erlick
  10. "Tom Lake" by Ann Patchett.

And here are the top 10 most borrowed books from all Rhode Island libraries and how many times they were checked out, according to Ocean State Libraries:
