Serious Crash In Portsmouth Monday
A 61-year-old man was flown by helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital after his car collided with a dump truck, police said.

PORTSMOUTH, RI — A 61-year-old man was flown by helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital after his car collided with a dump truck, police said. The accident happened around 9:45 Monday morning on the Escape Bridge off Point Road. According to Det. Lt. Matthew C. Arnold, the seriously injured driver was trapped inside the Ford Escape. Crews from Portsmouth, Tiverton, Middletown and Bristol fire departments helped rescue him.
The dump truck driver also was injured and was taken to the hospital.
An investigation is ongoing. The bridge was closed for more than two hours while Portsmouth detectives, the state police truck squad and Portsmouth's accident reconstruction team looked at the evidence.
