Cloudy, The Cat, Dies After Petco Grooming: WPRI

WPRI-TV is reporting a cat named Cloudy died after being groomed at the Petco at University Heights in Providence.

PROVIDENCE, RI—A cat named Cloudy died Feb. 26 after being groomed at the University Heights Petco, WPRI-TV is reporting. Cloudy was being dried and went into distress. The cat died at a veterinary hospital after suffering cardiac arrest. Click here for Channel 12's story.

Cloudy is not the only pet to die this year at Rhode Island groomers. On March 23, 2017, Ollie, a 5-year-old pug, died at the Middletown Petco while having his nails trimmed.

On May 31, Daisy, a Maltese mix, died at the Dirty Dog in Warren after groomer David Russell tied her to the wall with a slip lead leash. She fell off the bench and was choked to death, while Russell was looking in the other direction.

The RISPCA investigated all three cases. It did not bring charges. Rhode Island law does not recognize negligence as criminal.
