Providence Hits 90 Degrees For 1st Time This Summer
Though it's been close on a few occasions, Wednesday marked the first day of 90-degree temperatures of the summer. Here's what's to come.
PROVIDENCE, RI — There hasn't been a better time all summer to get that air conditioner going.
Though it's been close on a couple occasions, Wednesday was the first time this year that temperatures touched 90-degrees in Providence.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's high-temperature map confirms that, as of 3:12 p.m., the city touched 90-degrees as temperatures across the northeast crept toward the number.

Previous highs for the summer came on June 25 and July 1, when the highest temperatures were measured at 89-degrees.
According to WBZ's Eric Fisher, it took an unusually long time for Providence to hit 90-degrees this year. Fisher notes that this was the eighth longest wait, though it comes roughly two months before the record of mid-September, which happened in 1915.

Expect temperatures to drop off slightly for the rest of the week, sitting in the mid-80s as rain is possible on Thursday.
