Providence Just Faced The 4th Hottest July On Record
The National Weather Service in Boston also measured July as the third driest in station history for Providence.
PROVIDENCE, RI — July in Providence, at least from a weather perspective, can only be defined by two words: hot and dry.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston, Providence just recorded the third driest month of July in the station's history, and the fourth hottest month on record.
The mean temperature average from 1991 to 2020 during the month of July is 74.4 degrees. In 2022, Providence averaged a mean temperature of 77.2 degrees.

Additionally, the precipitation mark was well below the normal average of 2.91 inches, coming in at just .46 inches amid a continuing drought in the region.
Though these measures are historically significant, they don't break the records. In 2013, Providence recorded a 78.4 degree average, while, in 1952, Providence recorded just .32 inches of rain.

Perhaps most stunning is that more than half of the precipitation in July came on July 2 alone, when the station measured .24 inches.
The temperature high came on July 24 at 98 degrees.
National Weather Service officials say this was a theme across southern New England, as Boston also recorded top-5 historical marks for a lack of precipitation and high heat.
