Providence Man Caught With Nearly 53 Pounds Of Heroin Sentenced To Prison

Prosecutors say the heroin seizure was among the largest in Rhode Island history.

PROVIDENCE, RI — A Providence man who was caught with nearly 53 pounds of heroin was sentenced Monday to seven years in federal prison, U.S. Attorney Zachary Cunha said.

Jose Figuero Rosales, 50, pleaded guilty on April 17, to possession with intent to distribute and distribution of more than 100 grams of heroin.

DEA agents in Rhode Island had Rosales under surveillance in November 2018. While under surveillance, Figueroa sold more than four pounds of heroin, according to prosecutors.

Later that day, agents and officers searched Figueroa’s home and seized nearly 53 pounds of heroin, valued at more than $1 million, prosecutors said. Prosecutors said the heroin seizure was among the largest in Rhode Island history.

Following Rosales' prison sentence, he must serve four years of federal probation.
