Providence Man Gets 14-Year Sentence For Shooting Teen Store Clerk
Prosecutors say Emmanuel Narcisse, 21, shot an 18-year-old store clerk in the leg at GI Joe's Convenience Store in Providence.
PROVIDENCE, RI — A Providence man was sentenced Friday to 14 years in state prison after prosecutors proved he shot a teen convenience store clerk in the city.
In January, Emmanuel Narcisse, 21, was found guilty of assault with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence, and carrying a pistol without a license.
"We all should be able to feel reasonably safe from harm while at work, and yet this victim nearly lost his life at the hands of a criminal with access to a gun," Attorney General Peter Neronha said. "This defendant used a firearm to resolve a fistfight, and thankfully, the victim survived to help investigators deliver justice. I want to thank the Providence police and the prosecutors in my office for their hard work and collaboration in this case and countless others."

During the trial, prosecutors proved Narcisse shot the 18-year-old store clerk in the leg on Oct. 1, 2020 at GI Joe's Convenience Store on Smith Street.
The victim told officers he was working at the store when two people came in and one left without paying for a beverage. Prosecutors said the victim told officers he confronted the man outside the store, and a fight broke out between the three men. Then, two more people joined the fight, with one of them shooting the store clerk in the leg, firing into the victim’s car, and then fleeing.

Surveillance footage corroborated the victim’s version of events. Detectives identified the defendant through both the surveillance footage and witness testimony, ultimately leading to Narcisse's arrest on Dec. 20, 2020.
"I want to thank the men and women of the Providence Police Department for their tireless work in bringing violent criminals to justice," Providence Police Col. Oscar Perez said. "It is my hope this sentence serves as a deterrent for others who wish to bring harm to our community members. I applaud everyone involved in this case and am thankful at this resolution."
