Providence Man Guilty Of Murder And Mutilation

The slain man was decapitated after he was killed.

PROVIDENCE, RI — A Providence man was found guilty of the first-degree murder and mutilation of a dead human body in connection with a 2019 killing.

Troy Ingram, 27, bludgeoned 40-year-old Mohsin Muhammad to death, then cut his head off and partially severed his right arm, according to a media release from the office of Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Neronha.

Ingram was found guilty Thursday following a four-day trial, the release said.

"In the early hours of July 21, 2019, Providence Police responded to Mr. Muhammed’s apartment following a report of a suspicious death," the release said. "Police found him lying on the floor in a pool of blood, with his head fully decapitated and his right arm partially severed. Investigators found a large knife and two shovels near his body."

Investigators questioned Ingram the next day, according to the release, and he "provided a detailed confession."

Ingram had "entered Mr. Muhammed’s apartment, which he believed to be empty," the release said, and Muhammed confronted (him) and told him to leave."

"Once out of Mr. Muhammed’s apartment, the (Ingram) retrieved a shovel, lured Mr. Muhammed to the front door, and struck him repeatedly in the face and head, bludgeoning him to death," the release said.

Ingram "also confessed to decapitating and partially dismembering parts of Mr. Muhammed’s body with a knife before fleeing the scene," according to the release.

Ingram's sentencing was scheduled for Oct. 24.

“We are grateful that justice has been served for Mr. Muhammed and his family following this terrible crime,” Neronha said in the release. “I hope this verdict provides some semblance of peace for everyone affected, and I thank the Providence Police and the attorneys in my office for their hard work on this difficult case.”
