Providence Teen Who Drowned In Lincoln Woods State Park Identified
The teen's family said he was "a bright light in the Met School community" and his "genuine care for others was an inspiration."
PROVIDENCE, RI — State environmental officials identified a 15-year-old Providence boy who died after drowning at Lincoln Woods State Park.
Melecio DeLeon Regil, was pulled from the water around 6 p.m., Sunday, the Department of Environmental Management (DEM) said. Despite rescue efforts, the boy died a few days later, family and friends said on a GoFundMe page.
"Melecio DeLeon Regil was a bright light in the Met School community," the GoFundMe page reads. "His kindness and genuine care for others was an inspiration to all who knew him. Over everything else, his immense love and care for his family was his guide. There are no words to truly honor who this young man was."

DEM law enforcement officials said they are still investigating the circumstances of the drowning.
"DEM expresses its sincerest condolences to the victim's family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time," a spokesperson for the department said in a statement Thursday.
