PROVIDENCE, RI — The Rhode Island Foundation and Providence city officials have invited the public to a free performance — the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra’s Summer Pops in the Park concert.

The performance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 2 at the Temple to Music in Roger Williams Park.

"I am so excited to welcome the return of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra to our city for another year," Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said. "The Summer Pops concert has become a beloved tradition. Free concerts like these that bring our communities together to embrace our vibrant arts culture is what makes our city so special."

A caravan of food trucks will also be at the Temple to Music, the Rhode Island Foundation said. The foundation began sponsoring free performances of the Philharmonic’s Summer Pops Concert at the Temple to Music in 2016 to celebrate its centennial.

"There is not a better spot to celebrate the spirit of community than Roger Williams Park," foundation President David Cicilline said. "As the state’s only community foundation, we are glad to give our neighbors from throughout the city and the state the opportunity to come together and enjoy a remarkable evening of music."

This year's concert is a tribute to John Williams. Concert-goers can expect to hear selections like "March from the Resistance" from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," “Flight to Neverland” from "Hook," “Nimbus 2000” from "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone" and the theme from "Jurassic Park."

Free parking will be available throughout Roger Williams Park. The rain date is Aug. 3. More details are available here.
