Roger Williams Zoo Offering Half-Price Admission In January, February
Snow leopards and red pandas are among the zoo animals more active in winter. It is also easier to see red wolves without all the foliage.

PROVIDENCE, RI — Are you looking for a winter outdoor activity for the family? It might come as a surprise, but a visit to Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence is an option.
From Jan. 1 to Feb. 28, 2025, the zoo will offer half-price admission from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Mondays. Zoo officials said winter is the perfect time to visit, because there are animals that are more active now than they would be in the spring, summer, or fall.
The zoo's snow leopards are happy during the winter months. Snow leopards have adapted to live in colder environments, including their stocky bodies, thick fur, and small and rounded ears, all of which help minimize heat loss. A snow leopard's large, fur-covered forepaws help the animal travel on rocky surfaces and avoid sinking into the snow.

Red Wolves also acclimate well to colder weather and are more visible because of less foliage in winter. Zoo guests can often see them frolicking in the snow or lounging near heat sources, showcasing their ability to adapt to the changing seasons. Red pandas are also active during the cold weather.
All tickets must be purchased in advance online at rwpzoo.org, unless you are a zoo member.

The Zoo will also be free on Dec. 27, but the zoo officials encourage every visitor to share the holiday spirit with the community by bringing non-perishable food items to benefit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Cardi’s Furniture & Mattresses is also donating a truck and staff to help collect all food items and deliver everything to the RI Food Bank.
