East Smithfield Public Library Exhibiting Smith-Appleby House Items

Artifacts on display through month of March.

The Smith-Appleby House has a few historical items on display at the Smithfield Public Library this month.

The items include old coins, embroidery, quill pens, old books and a set of wooden inserts for storing shoes. The coins were apparently lost some 200 years ago. They were found on the Smith-Appleby site recently by someone using a metal detector.

The items are on display through the month of March. Stop in the library at 50 Esmond St. to have a look for yourself. Maybe you can help solve the mystery of why the letters A and L are stamped into one of the coins.
