Grand Jury Indicts Driver In Fatal Glocester Accident: AG

SMITHFIELD, RI — The driver in a fatal accident that killed a Harrisville volunteer firefighter will stand trial, the state Attorney General's office said Monday. Samuel Smith, 27, of Thompson, Conn., is being charged with one count of driving to endanger, death resulting; and one count of driving to endanger, personal injury resulting. The Providence Grand Jury on Jan. 19 reported out the indictment.
Both charges stem from a crash on Aug. 30. Smith, the authorities allege, was driving recklessly and caused the death of Lawrence Castonguay and also seriously hurt Marie Castonguay, The accident happened in Glocester.
Smith is due in Providence Superior Court on Feb. 8 for arraignment.
