Man Reported Missing From Cortland House Returns Next Day

A resident at the Cortland House was safely returned to the Independent & Assisted Living Facility yesterday afternoon, a day after being reported missing.

Smithfield Police were called to the 25 Cedar Swamp Road at 9 p.m. after the facility's staff reported David Powell, 24, missing. 

Powell had just returned to Cortland House earlier that day after being discharged from Newport Hospital, according to facility employees. Powell had last been seen at the facility at 4 p.m. March 5, giving directions to the facility via phone. 

Police checked the area but weren't able to locate Powell. The facility reported he had returned by about 2:45 p.m.
