Smithfield Fire Department Hosts Rhode Island Pink Heals [VIDEO]

The cancer awareness organization brought its ladder truck and rescue vehicle to town on Thursday morning.

 

If you drove past the Smithfield Fire Department on Thursday morning, Oct. 25, and wondered about the pink ladder and rescue trucks parked outside, here's the answer: Rhode Island Pink Heals brought their "Cares Enough to Wear Pink" campaign to the local firehouse.

The local chapter of a national cancer awareness organization, RI Pink Heals raises funds through the sale of pink t-shirts — which several members of the SFD were wearing proudly on Thursday — to benefit cancer research.

Hasbro Children's Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House are this year's chosen recipients.

In the accompanying video, Chief Robert Seltzer and Pvt. Steve Carberry speak about hosting the Pink Heals vehicles. Chief Seltzer also reflects on the origins of the effort, which started at his former department in Coventry.
