Happy Thursday, Smithfield - here are some things to know:

Traffic Safety Commission - The Smithfield Traffic Safety Commission meets today at 2 p.m. to discuss an update on Deerfield Park gate closing decisions (Black Hawk Trail side), from the Feb. 26 Town Council Working Meeting. They'll also discussthe proposed RIDOT revamp of the Putnam Pike (Rte.44) and Esmond Street intersection.
Snow Today - The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the area, with snow continuing through today into Friday morning.

SPD Female Self-Defense Class - The Smithfield Police Department is excited to announce the 2013 Smithfield Police Female Self-Defense Program, which starts on Tuesday, March 12.
The program is offered, free of charge any female over age fourteen (14) who resides in Smithfield or works at a business in town. The program will meet once a week, on Tuesday nights, from 6:30 to p.m. for five (5) consecutive weeks.

Board post openings - The town is seeking members to serve on the Sewer Authority, Historic Preservation Commission, Affordable Housing Advisory Board, and Financial Review Commission. Interested parties should submit a letter of interest to the Town Manager’s Office, 64 Farnum Pike, Smithfield, RI 02917 along with an application form. A letter of interest may contain your interest or experience in the field of each particular board or commission that you are applying for and, optionally, résumé information.
Old County Box Tops - Old County Road School PTA needs volunteers to help prepare box tops for submission. Interested parties should leave a comment on their facebook page. "It is easy and many hands make the job quicker...and earn OCRS free $," the PTA
