Winfield, General Assembly Honor 'Is Your Hair Made of Donuts' Author

On Tuesday, the General Assembly honored a local author and nutritional consultant for her work to promote healthy eating among children, especially those in her home state.
Joy Feldman of East Greenwich is the author of “Is Your Hair Made of Donuts?” which tells the story of Matt and Maddie Blossom and how they learn that, as the saying goes, you are what you eat.

A variety of local dignitaries, including Governor Lincoln D. Chafee, took part in a statewide event Monday aimed at to spread its message about the importance of eating healthy food. The event was planned in connection to National Nutrition Month, celebrated each March.
Rep. Thomas Winfield (D-Dist. 53, Smithfield, Glocester), having met her at a reading of her book at the Smithfield Public Library, introduced a resolution honoring Feldman for her work writing the book, promoting children’s nutrition and organizing the statewide reading. He and Rep. Antonio Giarrusso (R-Dist. 30, East Greenwich, West Greenwich), in whose district Feldman lives, welcomed her to the House this week to accept the resolution.

“Joy Feldman has developed a clever and entertaining way to help children understand that what they put into their bodies really does matter. I’m glad so many of our state’s children have been able to hear her message and learn about the importance of eating nutritious food,” said Winfield.
