MA Basketball Coach Accused Of Assaulting Teen Player During Tiverton Tournament
Tiverton police say Coach Adam Hayes, 42, of Peabody, Mass., assaulted a teen player after a fight between players at the end of the game.
TIVERTON, RI — A Massachusetts basketball coach was arrested during a youth tournament in Tiverton on Saturday after police said he assaulted a 15-year-old boy.
Adam Hayes, 42, of Peabody, Massachusetts, was charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct.
Around 7:30 p.m., police were called to Longplex at 300 Industrial Way for a report of a man with a gun. When officers arrived, several spectators were rushing out of the building.

According to police, officers spoke with Longplex employees and learned there was a fight between players that resulted in an adult assaulting a player.
After speaking with witnesses and reviewing security camera footage, police said they learned the victim was a 15-year-old boy who was playing in the tournament. Police also said they used the footage and witness accounts to identify Hayes as the coach who assaulted the player. Police said no gun was found when officers searched the building.

The victim declined to go to the hospital with Tiverton paramedics, police said.
Hayes was released on $1,000 surety bail pending his next court date, scheduled for Thursday.
