Dog Rescued From Tiverton Home Is Part Gray Wolf

TIVERTON, RI — One of the 35 dogs rescued from a Tiverton home last month turned out to be part wolf.

Howl, a 6-year-old wolf dog, was among the nearly three dozen dogs and two cats rescued from an "uninhabitable" Tiverton home on May 3, according to the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA).

But because of Howl's appearance and behavior, RISPCA officials had his DNA tested. RISPCA officials told WPRI 12 the test showed Howl is 18.4 percent gray wolf, 53.8 percent Siberian husky, 15.6 percent Alaskan malamute and 12.2 percent German shepherd.

Howl will have to be adopted out of state, as wolf-dogs are illegal to have as pets in Rhode Island.
