Weather: The sun will break through the clouds today, pushing temperatures up to highs near 75. Be sure to enjoy the sunny break in the weather though, because patchy fog and clouds will roll in again overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

2. Head down to the  on Conanicus Street tonight for the weekly meeting of the Sakonnet club.

The Sakonnet Club is a social group that meets every Monday at 1 p.m. in the Dining Room.  Immediately following their meeting refreshments are served and Bingo is played.  New members are always welcome.

5. On this day in 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signs Medicare, a health insurance program for elderly Americans, into law. At the bill-signing ceremony, which took place at the Truman Library in Independence, Missouri, former President Harry S. Truman was enrolled as Medicare's first beneficiary and received the first Medicare card. Johnson wanted to recognize Truman, who, in 1945, had become the first president to propose national health insurance, an initiative that was opposed at the time by Congress.
