How Tiverton-LC Voted In The March 2 Special Election

All seven of the statewide budget questions were approved by Rhode Island voters.

TIVERTON-LITTLE COMPTON, RI — Rhode Island voters went to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots concerning seven statewide budget questions. All seven questions were approved.

Here in Tiverton and Little Compton, voters followed the statewide trend by approving all seven questions. A breakdown of votes by question and type is listed below.


Question One

$107.3 million for higher education, including $57.3 million for a fine arts center at URI, $38 million for the Clarke Science Building at RIC and $12 million to renovate CCRI's campuses.

Tiverton

  • Approve: 905 votes, 50.4 percent
  • Reject: 889 votes, 49.6 percent

  • Approve: 387 votes, 58 percent
  • Reject: 280 votes, 42 percent

Question Two

$74 million for environment and recreational projects, a total of $10 million over the governor's original proposal.

Tiverton

  • Approve: 1,284 votes, 71.7 percent
  • Reject: 508 votes, 28.3 percent

Little Compton

  • Approve: 527 votes, 78.9 percent
  • Reject: 141 votes, 21.1 percent

Question Three

$65 million for affordable housing, an increase of $40 million over the original proposal, included in the amendment offered by the governor in July.

Tiverton

  • Approve: 1,043 votes, 58.8 percent
  • Reject: 731 votes, 41.2 percent

Little Compton

  • Approve: 428 votes, 64.8 percent
  • Reject: 232 votes, 35.2 percent

Question Four

$71.7 million for transportation initiatives.

Tiverton

  • Approve: 1,476 votes, 82 percent
  • Reject: 324 votes, 18 percent

Little Compton

  • Approve: 546 votes, 81.4 percent
  • Reject: 125 votes, 18.6 percent

Question Five

$15 million for early childhood care and the educational capital fund.

Tiverton

  • Approve: 1,087 votes, 60.6 percent
  • Reject: 706 votes, 39.4 percent

Little Compton

  • Approve: 469 votes, 70.1 percent
  • Reject: 200 votes, 29.9 percent

Question Six

$7 million for arts and cultural infrastructure, including $6 million for the cultural arts and economy grant program, and $1 million for the state preservation grants program.

Tiverton

  • Approve: 909 votes, 50.6 percent
  • Reject: 886 votes, 49.4 percent

Little Compton

  • Approve: 421 votes, 63 percent
  • Reject: 247 votes, 37 percent

Question Seven

$60 million for commerce infrastructure, including $20 million for the Port of Davisville at Quonset and $40 million for industrial site development.

Tiverton

  • Approve: 953 votes, 53.2 percent
  • Reject: 839 votes, 46.8 percent

Little Compton

  • Approve: 366 votes, 54.9 percent
  • Reject: 301 votes, 45.1 percent
