Little Compton Fiscal Clerk Charged With Embezzlement
Little Compton Fiscal Clerk, who also serves as a part-time police dispatcher, admitted she misappropriated a residents' taxes, police say.

LITTLE COMPTON, RI — Little Compton Fiscal Clerk and part-time police dispatcher Rachel Bruno was arrested last week after she admitted to misappropriating a resident's tax payment, according to Rhode Island State Police.
Bruno, 31, was arrested Thursday, and was charged with embezzlement.
In August, a town resident learned their 2022 tax payment was never processed. State police said the resident made a cash payment of $1,096.62 to the town tax collector's office in September 2022, and the payment was handed to Bruno.

A subsequent review by Little Compton town officials revealed the cash payment was not recorded or deposited into the town's account, state police said. Following an internal investigation, Bruno confessed to town officials that she had misappropriated the money, state police said.
Bruno appeared before a justice of the peace for arraignment. She was released on $1,000 personal recognizance. She is scheduled to attend a pre-arraignment conference on Feb. 28, 2024.
