LIVE BLOG: Tiverton-Little Compton Elections 2012

Today is Election Day! Here is a guide to help you make a decision, cast your vote and follow the elections real time on Patch.

1:36 p.m.: Tiverton recived 515 applications for mail-in and emergency ballots for the 2012 election, a significant increase over the 352 mail-in ballots received four years ago.

Town Clerk Nancy Mello, who is running unopposed for re-election, attributed the increase to relaxed state standards for applying for those types of ballots.

1:42 p.m.: At Tiverton Town Hall, moderator Joann Bollin reported 42 newly registered voters participated in the presidential/vice presidential election. 

According to Nancy Mello, town clerk, this gets unregistered residents registered and eligible for voting in future races.

"It actually gets them to register," she said. "So that's a good process." 

Mello said the only problems at the polls this morning was confusion over where to vote. East Road voters are split down the middle for the first time this year, causing confusion becasue one side of the street votes at the High School and the other at Amicable Congregational Church.

2:53 p.m.: At the Pocasset School, 787 of the precinct's 1,700 voters had cast their vote.

Dist. 71 Rep. Jay Edwards waved at voters alongside his daughter and other supporters as voters entered the polls. 

Tiverton Town Council incumbent Joan Chabot campaigned waved her sign as did Abel Collins Perez in his first bid for Tiverton Budget Committee.

3:33: At the VFW Post on Shove Street in Tiverton, by 3:04 p.m. 874 of the precints 2,400 voters had submitted their ballots.

Outside, Tiverton 1st candidates were in full force:  Town Council incumbents Ed Roderick and Brett N. Pelletier waived in voters alongside council hopefuls Denise DeMedeiros and Renee DeJesus Jones. Rep. Jay Edwards made an appearance and Mike LeDuc's military convey sported signs in support of all Tiverton 1st candidates.

Peter Mello, a Tiverton Town Council candidate was flanked by Jim O'Dell, who campaigned outside the precinct for his wife, Madeline O'Dell, a local small business owner who is vying for a seat on the town's Budget Committee.

4:09 p.m.: Joe Sousa, a Town Council hopeful, was the sole candidate holding down the fort at Countryview Estates in North Tiverton.

Just after 4 p.m. 607 of the precinct's 1,425 registered voter had completed their civic duty.

4:15 p.m.: Bulgarmarsh Road is closed to all traffic after a car struck a utility pole at the intersection with Floral Way around 3:30 p.m. Voters heading to polls at the Ranger School, Tiverton High School or Sandywoods Farm should seek alternate routes.

4:45 p.m.: Bulgarmarsh Road reopened to all traffic.

5:09 p.m.: A steady stream of voters are lining up to vote at the Ranger School, where poll wardens reported 757 of the venue's 1,674 registered voters had turned up.

5:14 p.m.: The Tiverton High School was bursting with people waiting to vote, the poll precinct moderator reported 1,032 people had already cast their votes.

5:31 p.m.:  The Amicable Congregational Church parking lot was packed, as was the community room, with voters. The tally read 849 out of about 1,600 votes.

5:53 p.m.: Little Compton voters crowded the gymnasium at the Wilbur-McMahon School for a final push before the 8 p.m. closing time. According to Town Clerk Carol Wordell, 1,1715 of the town's 3,100 registered voters had already cast a ballot. 

She said 225 mail-in and emergency ballots were requested in the November election.

7:22 p.m.: Tiverton 1st candidates and supporters are gathering at Family Ties Restaurant on Main Road to hear the tallies. Patch will be there to document candidate's reactions to the results.
