More T-Storms and Flash Flooding Expected

Tiverton and Little Compton are at risk for tornados and flash flooding as well as more thunderstorms this afternoon, according a warning issued today by the National Weather Service.

Residents should prepare for severe thunderstorms this week, as the National Weather Service issued another warning for "life-threatening weather" developing today.

The NWS warns the threat of severe thunderstorms will last from 4 p.m. until midnight today.

"The main hazards will be damaging wind gusts and large hail, even isolated tornados," said weather officials. According to the weather advisory, the area at highest risk for tornados is western Massachusetts and northern Connecticut, though the potential exists across the entire region.

Forecasters expect heavy, sudden downpours to accompany thunderstorms, creating a potential for flash flooding and issued a second warning for the area - also from 4 p.m. to midnight - to that effect.

Weather officials said a brief appearance by the sun this afternoon would cause "instability to develop which will set the stage for multiple rounds of thunderstorms to develop."
