Kathleen Ann Child, 65, of Tiverton passed away on 6/24/15 after almost 3 years of suffering the ravages of ovarian cancer. She deeply regretted leaving behind her husband of 32 years, Dr. Robert Child.
Born on 9/2/49 in Springfield, MA, she was the daughter of Samuel Hanna and the late Rita (Kelley) Hanna and was the step daughter of the late Claire Hanna.
A summa cum laude graduate of Stonehill College, she was an independent software consultant for most of her working years, traveling nationally and internationally. An avid sailor of Hobies, then big boats, she enjoyed sailing the east coast with her husband. But her greatest love was horseback riding, whether on a cross country trek in Wyoming or working out in the dressage ring with Wren, her favorite horse ever. A passion for yoga helped her stay fit for her riding and she was proud to be the most flexible girl in her yoga groups.
Apart from her father, she leaves behind three brothers and their wives: James Michael and Monique Hanna in Belgium, John and Carol Hanna of Addison, IL and Kevin and Rose Hanna of Southwick, Ma. She had loved nieces and a nephew in addition to in-laws who will all miss her dearly.
Kathleen’s favorite charity was Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers. This wonderful organization trains capuchin monkeys as service animals to render companionship and physical assistance to those suffering from spinal cord injuries or neurological conditions. The monkeys are trained at Monkey College and placed at no charge with the veteran or civilian in need.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathleen’s name may be made to Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers at www.monkeyhelpers.org.
