Tiverton Holds Active Shooter Drill At Two Schools

Police and firefighters will be at Tiverton High and at Fort Barton School on Friday for a safety drill for teachers and staff.

TIVERTON, RI—Police and firefighters conducted 'active shooter' training at two schools on Friday morning and afternoon, the police department said. The department published a Facebook post to alert parents who might be alarmed by the police presence so soon after a school shooting that has rocked the nation. However, the timing is not in response to the Parkland, Florida school shooting on Wednesday, the police department stressed. In fact, the plan to conduct the drills had been in the works "for several months," police said. The training is intended to prepare teachers and staff for an incident, if a gunman should pose a threat or open fire.
