Tiverton High School Dismissed Early Due To Strange Odor
School officials said all instrument readings for potentially harmful gases were negative.
TIVERTON, RI — The weekend started a little early for Tiverton High School students on Friday after the school was evacuated due to a "strange odor" reported near the cafeteria. Tiverton police and fire investigated and found no evidence of harmful gases in the school, but the school was dismissed early out of an abundance of caution.
A spokesperson at the Tiverton superintendent's office said the evacuation began around 9 a.m.
We have elected to dismiss Tiverton High School for the remainder of the day, 5/10/19. The buses have been called to THS to perform the dismissal procedures. All other Tiverton schools will be adhering to their normal school schedule. Thank you for your patience. pic.twitter.com/vaxMDIbiUN

In a tweet, school district officials said the odor was reported near the school's cafeteria, and that all readings for harmful gases conducted by the Tiverton Fire Department were negative. No other schools will be dismissed early on Friday.
