Tiverton Leads Rhode Island In Car-Deer Crashes In 2024-2025: Police

The Tiverton Police Department warned motorists to keep an eye out for deer.

TIVERTON, RI — Tiverton led Rhode Island with the number of motor vehicle crashes involving deer the last two years, according to the police department

"In 2024 a total of 90 motor vehicle crashes were reported, and thus far in 2025 we have had 44!" the Tiverton Police Department posted on its Facebook page.

"With that being said we wanted to ensure every motorist in town was aware that the deer rutting season occurs from late October through early December, peaking around mid-November, with bucks being highly active as they search for does," the post said.

The department warned drivers to exercise caution.

"This heightened activity makes it a particularly dangerous time for drivers, especially at dawn and dusk, so it is crucial to drive cautiously, slow down, and be alert for deer crossing roads (which in Tiverton is the majority of our roads)," the post said.
