Armed Man Captured After 9-Hour Standoff To Be Charged: Warwick Cops

WARWICK, RI β€” A nine-hour standoff ended with the Warwick Police Department SWAT team entering a residence and apprehending an armed man, police said.

Tyler Bagley, 33, "will face" charges of domestic assault, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a crime of violence and domestic disorderly conduct in connection with the Monday morning incident on Blake Street, the Warwick Police Department said in a media release.

Officers were called to a residence on Blake between Bellman Avenue and West Shore Road about 12:30to investigate a report of an intoxicated man "acting belligerent with a firearm," according to the release.

Police were told by a woman in the home that "her adult brother was 'being belligerent and had her firearm,'" the release said, and also learned Bagley reportedly pointed the firearm at a woman.

"Responding Officers were able to safely evacuate two females and a male from the residence," the release said. "The Warwick Police SWAT team responded and it was determined that Bagley had barricaded himself in an attic area of the residence. Extensive negotiations were conducted and multiple methods were used to determine Bagley's status."

Bagley is a "person prohibited from possessing a firearm," according to the Warwick police.

"The Warwick Police SWAT team made eventual entry into the residence at which time Bagley was located in the house," the release said. "He was taken into custody without incident and subsequently transported to Kent Hospital for evaluation."
