Motorcyclist Seriously Injured In Warwick Crash

A woman was heading west on Main Avenue when she collided with an SUV turning left onto Jefferson Boulevard, police said.

WARWICK, RI — A woman is hospitalized in stable condition after her motorcyclist collided with an SUV in Warwick Wednesday afternoon.

At around 3:24 p.m., Warwick police, fire and EMS responded to the intersection of Main Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard for a crash involving a SUV and a motorcycle. They found a woman, 43, unresponsive on the roadway. The woman, who had been operating a Honda motorcycle, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries to her legs and head.

Police also found a Chevrolet SUV with minor damage to the front end, and said the SUV was operated by a man, 35, and a juvenile passenger, neither of whom suffered injuries.

In a news release, police said it appears that the SUV was heading east on Main Avenue when it turned left to travel north on Jefferson Boulevard. The motorcycle was heading west on Main Avenue when it struck the SUV on the driver’s side front bumper. The impact knocked the motorcyclist to the ground, and she landed a short distance away.

At this time, the Warwick Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team does not believe that speed, alcohol, drugs, or distracted driving are factors in the collision. The investigation remains active.

Wednesday afternoon the area was blocked to traffic for hours while police conducted their investigation.

Criminal charges are not being sought by the police department at this time. Civil violations may be pending and will be issued by the crash reconstruction team if warranted.
