West Warwick Man, 74, Charged With Murder In Death Of Wife

WEST WARWICK, RI — A West Warwick man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of his wife. Martin Hughes, 74, was arraigned Monday night at the hospital and ordered held without bail, according to West Warwick police.

Police responded to River Farms Drive around 9 p.m. on June 15 for reports of a shooting. Officers and members of a regional SWAT team entered the home and found two people with gunshot wounds. Marcia Hughes, 74, was pronounced dead at the scene by West Warwick firefighters while her husband was taken to the hospital.

Martin Hughes is charged with domestic first-degree murder and with firing a gun in a compact area, said Major Ernest Lavigne of the West Warwick Police Department.
