Planning Board Meeting: The Woonsocket Planning Board is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. on August 7, 2012 at City Hall. , 169 Main St, Woonsocket, RI 

Crusin' with the Saints: The All Saints Catholic Parish in Woonsocket is scheduled to host a Cruisin' with the Saints modern and classic car event every Tuesday evening beginning at 5:30 p.m. until dusk from May 15 until August 7, 2012.

The final show will take place on Saturday, August 25, 2012 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Rain dates are scheduled for August 14 and 21.

This Day in History: On this day in 1947, Kon-Tiki, a balsa wood raft captained by Norwegian anthropologist Thor Heyerdahl, completes a 4,300-mile, 101-day journey from Peru to Raroia in the Tuamotu Archipelago, near Tahiti. Heyerdahl wanted to prove his theory that prehistoric South Americans could have colonized the Polynesian islands by drifting on ocean currents.
