Suspected Worcester Gang Member Faces Woonsocket Weapons Charge
Police say they found a loaded gun during a traffic stop on Nov. 24.

WOONSOCKET, RI—Woonsocket Police said Friday they have charged a suspect with carrying a pistol without a license or permit. Daviel Lara, 20 of Providence, was a passenger in a 2007 Jeep Cherokee, which police stopped on Bentley Street on Nov. 24 at 1:10 a.m. The driver, who is not being identified, and Lara are known Worcester gang members, police allege. Also, police say the driver was known to carry firearms, and during the traffic stop, dispatch alerted police to be aware guns might be present.
The Jeep was searched. Police found "a loaded .45 caliber handgun under the passenger’s seat, directly at" Lara's feet. Five live rounds were in the magazine, and none in the chamber.
"Lara was subsequently charged with License or Permit required for carrying a pistol," police said.
