Woonsocket Hopes to Keep Local DMV Office

The state Department of Motor Vehicles is looking to move into a new spot and city officials are working to keep it in Woonsocket.

City officials are working to ensure that the state keeps a Department of Motor Vehicles office in Woonsocket.

The state is seeking bids for a new DMV registry location and plans to move out of its building on Pond Street.

In a news release, Woonsocket Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt said that it is “it is critical to the vitality of the City that we keep the Registry in Woonsocket.

“The Registry draws people to our City, who then frequent other merchants. I am committed to working with the State to have the services of the DMV remain in Woonsocket for the benefit of our residents,” the mayor said.

The request for proposals have been listed in the Providence Journal and Woonsocket Call. The DMV is looking for about 5,500 square feet of space for office and customer service space. They also need 65 parking spaces.
