Woonsocket HS Fight Update: “Administrators and Superintendent Patrick McGee say they want to make it clear that misinformation and social media are to blame for exaggerating issues and causing unnecessary fear among the public.” They refer to “videos and rumors depicting violence” in local schools spreading online. On Thursday, “McGee confirmed that teachers are neither encouraged nor discouraged from getting involved in student altercations, and that it is at the teacher’s discretion to intervene or not if they witness violence between students.” (The Valley Breeze)
  2. The Museum of Work & Culture will celebrate Franco-American culture Sunday with Bonjour Printemps. You can participate and “try poutine from some of Rhode Island’s best food trucks! Friskie Fries, Reds Street Kitchen and Bonetown Burgers and BBQ will all be on hand to provide this tasty Quebecois treat! Enjoy live music, local beer and bakery treats from Wrights Dairy Farm.” Festivities go from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Museum of Work & Culture)
  3. We learned Wednesday that what used to be the Ballou Home for the Aged has sold for $1 million (it has been valued at $1.3 million). Located at 60 Mendon Road, it “closed down as a 43-bed nursing home with a five-star rating at the end of September last year.” The new owner is EJS Investments Inc. “The buyer will likely be seeking city approval for a renovation of the building to turn it into apartments.” (PBN)
  4. What will the City Council be discussing on Monday? There is the “abandonment of a portion of Washington Street.” Also, “the skateboard park located at the Susan D. Menard Middle Schools” needs an upgrade. (City of Woonsocket)
  5. The City of Woonsocket is hiring a City Tax Assessor! You have until April 29 to apply for the position that pays $85,000 a year. You need to have “considerable specialized technical knowledge, strong analytical ability, excellent organizational skills, and the capacity to effectively deal with taxpayers.” (City Tax Assessor)
