Woonsocket Man Convicted On Multiple Counts Of Child Molestation

City resident will be sentenced April 22.

 

A Providence County Superior Court Jury has found Anibal Acevedo, 41, of Woonsocket, guilty of two counts of first degree child molestation and three counts of second degree child molestation.

The jury returned a guilty verdict in 25 minutes after a three day trial presided over by Superior Court Justice Sarah Taft-Carter, according to a release from Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin.

During the trial, the State proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Acevedo molested a young girl, whom he was related to, on multiple occasions in 2003, when she was 13. The victim reported the molestation in 2009.

Woonsocket Police led the investigation and Assistant Attorney General Feidlim Gill prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of Attorney General.

Acevedo, who has been held without bail since November 2010 is scheduled to be sentenced April 22.
