Woonsocket Man Pleads Guilty to Gun Charges

WOONSOCKET, RI—A 28-year-old Woonsocket man has pleaded guilty in Superior Court to an assortment of gun charges stemming from a March 25 love triangle shooting.

Lorenzo Hicks-Hinson, 28, of 419 Diamond Hill Road, pleaded guilty on Monday to felony assault, discharge of a firearm while committing a crime of violence, carrying a firearm without a license and possession of a firearm after being previously convicted of a crime of violence.

Hicks-Hinson admitted in court that he shot David Harmon twice in the abdomen with a .44 Magnum during an argument.

Woonsocket police responded to the apartment that night and found Hicks-Hinson, who claimed to have shot Harmon in self-defense. Investigators found the gun in a bag in the basement. Its serial numbers were ground down and untraceable.

Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin said in a news release that had the case gone to trial, prosecutors were ready to prove that Hicks-Hinson’s initial claims that he shot Harmon in self-defense were false.

Harmon went to Hick-Hinson’s apartment to confront him about seeing his girlfriend while Harmon was incarcerated. The argument became heated and Hicks-Hinson took out the gun and fired twice.

Harmon was brought to Landmark Medical Center by his girlfriend and told police that Hicks-Hinson brandished the gun during the argument.

Hicks-Hinson is currently being held at the Adult Correctional Institutions and will be sentenced on Feb. 5.

Woonsocket Police Detective Sergeant Kevin Sanford led the investigation with assistance from Detective Sergeant Philip Kramer, Rhode Island State Police Trooper Lisa Hanley and K-9 Annie, a yellow Labrador Retriever trained in explosives and gun detection. Assistant Attorney General John E. Corrigan prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of Attorney General.
