Allison Griffor Remembered on Shooting Anniversary

A small group gathered in Park Circle Thursday to remember 5-year-old Allison Griffor, who died from a gunshot wound received on Oct. 25, 2011

A year ago today 5-year-old Allison Griffor was on life support after being shot in the head.

Some one fired a shotgun through the front door of her family's apartment around 1 a.m. that night. Six of the pellets blew through a wall and struck Griffor while she was sleeping.

Two days later her family would decide to turn off the machines and donate her organs.

The Survivors of Homicide Support Group and the Charleston County Sheriff's Office Victim's Advocate Office organized a vigil in memory of Griffor at Park Circle Thursday. About two dozen people attended to pray and sing together. They also wrote messages of support to Griffor's family that will be included in a scrapbook of photos of Griffor that the support group is sending to the Griffor Family, who have since moved out of the Charleston area.

The case seems to have stalled for investigators despite an impassioned plea from Sheriff Al Cannon for anyone with knowledge about the crime to come forward and a reward being offered for information in the case. Recently Cannon told reporters that investigators believe that one or more of the people responsible for the shooting may already be in jail on unrelated charges.
