Bees Ferry Road Lane Closures Next Week

Charleston County Government announces a traffic alert regarding nighttime lane closures for the Bees Ferry Road Widening Project in West Ashley.

The following work is needed so workers can install drainage pipes as part of the project:

  • The lane closure on Bees Ferry Road will begin at the Hunt Club Run Intersection and end at the Charleston County Bees Ferry Landfill.
  • The work will occur between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. to minimize the impact on drivers.
  • Workers with flags will direct traffic through the closures.
  • All road work is dependent on weather. If the weather is poor between July 9 and 13, work will continue on the next weather-permitting night (other than a Friday or Saturday).

Drivers traveling through the project’s construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working in the area at all times. The public is also asked to notice traffic control signs, reductions in speed limit and message board information.

The goal of the project, which is expected to be completed April 2014, is to make improvements to the entire 4.5 mile length of Bees Ferry Road from Savannah Highway (U.S. 17) to Ashley River Road (S.C. 61). The project was requested by the City of Charleston and was funded by the Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax Program. Partial funding for the project was approved by voters in the second Transportation Sales Tax bond referendum.
